About Derg Finn

DergFinn Partnership is a unique Cross Border and Cross Community project situated in the West Tyrone/East Donegal Border Region. They seek to improve the quality of life of people in need, their carers and the community as a whole through community development, training, mutual co-operation and the exchange of skills. The project is funded by Peace II and has offices in Ballybofey and Castlederg from which various cross-border events and courses are organised.

DergFinn Partnership is based in Glenfin St, Ballybofey and has been in existence since 1997. Many people from the Finn Valley of Co. Donegal and the Derg Valley of Co. Tyrone when asked had they heard of DergFinn Partnership would say they have.

Services provided from the DergFinn Partnership Centre, Glenfin Street, Ballybofey:. General Carers and Disability Advice. Regional Employment Service Monthly Donegal Local Development Company outreach service as required Internet service for Carers and Disadvantaged. Meeting room / training room for use by the Community. Finn Valley Carers Support Group and Forever Fathers are based at the centre Finn Valley Autism Support Group & Donegal Branch Multiple Sclerosis Society meet monthly TwinTowns Community Platform Audio Library for Carers and people with disabilities. Overview of Project

This Project required the DergFinn Partnership website to be thoroughly tested for accessibility and usability issues.

This was carried out through a manual analysis of the DergFinn Partnership website against the WAI guidelines and Usability guidelines, whereupon recommendations were made and the site was re-coded to ensure it was W3C compliant and user friendly.

In addition to this, further testing was carried out through real user testing.

Project Findings

It was found that the website contravened a number of usability and accessibility guidelines:

1- The site did not pass WAI compliancy and was therefore not accessible- An example of a Priority 2 defect was the fact that the webpages did not contain a DOCTYPE statement.

2- Users found the website difficult to use

Project Recommendations

Based on the findings from the thorough accessibility and usability testing, Elemental Creative Ltd recommended that the findings of the report be implemented into the website, so that the website could be both accessible and usable.

Results

The findings from the report were implemented into the website to ensure it was compliant to WAI guidelines and Usability Guidelines.
